My Approach

While therapy is always tailored to the client, the main type of therapy I utilize is acceptance and commitment therapy. Tying behavior change to strong values is the core of lasting and meaningful change. Other possible techniques you may find helpful for your healing are talk therapy, problem solving, coping and distress tolerance skills, psychoeducation and how to apply and use this knowledge in daily life. The first session is a “get to know you” type of session for both of us. We will discuss whatever you are comfortable with sharing; things such as why you are seeking treatment, medical, psychological, and social history, if you have sought therapy in the past, logistics such as paperwork and payment, and anything else that might be pertinent for your treatment. I believe each of us are the experts in our own lives. I will support you on your journey of self reflection and create a safe space for you to be vulnerable and begin to heal.

My Background

I have worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years in various capacities and a variety of patient populations including adults, elderly, child, adolescent, neonatal, couples, and families. I currently have a bachelor of science degree in nursing (2012) and a master of science degree in clinical mental health counseling (2015). I have completed Postpartum Support International’s “Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Components of Care” certificate training (January 2016) and Advanced Perinatal Psychotherapy training (July 2018). Certification through PSI to be completed this year. While not formally providing therapy until my masters program in 2015, I have long come beside patients and clients and sat with them during some of their most difficult times. I have spent extensive time caring for hospice patients and their families, worked at an inpatient eating disorder facility, and am currently employed with a behavioral health hospital in outpatient services.
