My approach is very person centered and collaborative. I work with my clients to courageously and safely open up to their experience(s), learn to trust themselves, and develop an internal locus of control or belief that they can have influence over their lives. I am trained in and incorporate the following approaches; Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation), Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, Gottman Method, and Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation. I love to share resources (books, articles, meditations, movement) for us to practice in session and for clients to have tools outside of session. I also like to check in frequently to be sure clients are getting the most out of their counseling experience and feel like they are truly growing and healing.
Danelle Chapman Background
I began my counseling work in 2004 in Portland, Oregon as a School Counselor. I worked in a middle school and then a high school. I love the energy and community of working in schools. I worked closely with teachers and families to help young people be healthy socially and emotionally, meet their academic goals, and be moving towards their future with hope and access to opportunities. While in the schools I became certified as a Yoga Calm (https://www.yogacalm.org/) teacher and taught yoga and mindfulness in small groups and in the health classes. I opened my private practice in 2010 and remained working in the schools until 2018. I expanded my learning to included couples work. I went back to school and took several graduate courses in couples, marriage, and family therapy. I also continued to expand my yoga and mindfulness skills and earned my RYT-200 (registered yoga teacher) certification.
