Finding the right therapist for you is an important part of your wellness journey. In life and in the therapy room, I practice solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). SFBT is a well-researched and efficacious model that focuses on your preferred future. SFBT does not ignore our past but changes how we relate to our past experiences by shifting the language we use to describe them. I also practice affirmative therapy that celebrates multiple identities (e.g. race, religion, LGBTQIA+, ethnicity).
Benjamin Finlayson Background
I am working toward a Doctorate in Couple, Marriage, & Family therapy at Texas Tech University. I earned my Master’s of Science in Couple, Marriage, & Family Therapy from Texas Tech. I am an advocate for marginalized communities and make it a priority in my work to give back through research, presentations, legislation, and volunteer work. I am a child of addiction and our family continues the journey through relapse, recovery, and healing. My earliest clinical experience involved establishing a grant-funded mental health clinic in partnership with a local hospital in a rural community outside of Lubbock. This clinic served families, couples, and individuals in a collaborative setting that otherwise would not have means to mental healthcare. Additional clinical experiences include work in pediatric intensive care units and oncology.
