Object-relations is a variation of psychoanalytic theory based on Sigmund Freud’s belief that humans are motivated by sexual and aggressive drives, suggesting that humans are motivated by the need for relationships with others. Object relations therapists stress the importance of early family interactions, how we are driven to form bonds with others and that failure to form successful early relationships leads to problems later on.
